Hoover, Ala. – With the 2015 college football season rapidly approaching, the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff is beginning to take center stage.

The matchup, which features top 20 programs Texas A&M and Arizona State, is set for a 6 pm kickoff on Saturday, September 5th. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN and broadcast locally on CBS Radio Houston’s Sports Radio 610.

The AdvoCare Texas Kickoff will mark the first match-up in the schools’ histories, continuing the tradition of championship caliber opponents facing off at NRG Stadium. This will be Texas A&M’s third time appearing in an opening weekend event (1988 and 1998), and the contest will mark Arizona State’s first time playing in such a game.

Texas A&M senior offensive lineman Mike Matthews talked about the buzz building in Aggieland for the prime time matchup.

“As the days keep getting closer, I get more and more excited,” commented Matthews.

The Missouri City, TX native is returning from injury, and is looking forward to getting back in the field so close to home.

“My season was cut early last season with the bowl game and my injury,” he added. “I didn’t get to participate in spring football so I’m really excited.”

For fellow lineman and Houston native Germain Ifedi, this matchup against the Sun Devils is a unique opportunity to play in front of family and friends.

“It means everything, especially being about ten minutes from my house,” Ifedi explained. “It’s a true blessing to be able to play the first game of my fourth year in college at that stadium.”

Both Matthews and Ifedi expect a great atmosphere, and are counting on a huge turnout at NRG Stadium.

“It’s going to be a great and what makes it better is that it’s going to be an hour and a half from Aggieland, so the fans get to travel and see us play,” Ifedi chimed in.

“We’re playing right there in our backyard,” added Matthews.
