HOUSTON – Two of the most storied alumni in University of Oklahoma and University of Houston history will serve as honorary captains when the two schools go head-to-head in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff Game at NRG Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 3. Former Oklahoma Sooner running back Adrian Peterson and former Houston Cougar track and field star Carl Lewis will represent their alma maters at midfield prior to kickoff at 11 a.m. CT.

Peterson, the 2012 Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player and 2012 AP Offensive Player of the Year, was the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. The seven-time Pro Bowl selection was the first true freshman in Sooner history to earn AP First Team All-American honors. Playing 31 games over his three seasons at Oklahoma, Peterson set the school record with 1,925 yards as a freshman in 2004.

A graduate of the University of Houston, Lewis began his career with the Cougars in 1979.
